Hangover

Hangover tells you that you probably had one too many last night. It’s an aftermath of partaking excess alcohol and is typically characterized by fatigue, nausea, trembliness, headaches, sensitivity to light, and at times to sound.

Last Friday was memorable. We were having an end of year party at our office that started at six O’clock and went late into the night. Usually, it entails a round of speeches from the heads of departments, conferment of awards, cutting of cake, and lastly, a night of music and dance. Everyone looks forward to this event except the old fogies.

In this year’s edition, people had too much to drink. Our only undoing was that we were still to report to work the following morning for half-day’s work. Nobody cared. A few of our colleagues drank themselves silly and had to be driven home but others could manage by themselves. For me the highlight was the good food and the music. Curtains came down at 3am in the morning. Need I say that no work was done on Saturday?

While I’m not a drinker myself, occasionally I have found myself in situations where I experience a few of these symptoms after a night out. In a loose sense that’s hangover for me.
